the Bank Street
An innovative community development initiative lead by a team of researchers at the University of Ottawa, working closely with Ottawa Community Housing and the members of the community.
Where did it come from?
The Bank Street Community Alliance is part of the larger project called Synergie in collaboration with the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQUAM). The Synergy project is an ongoing community-based research project working towards involving public housing tenants in assessing and improving their housing environment. This Participatory Action Research program was developed by Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and has been implemented in several cities across the province of Québec.
In this project so far, we have learned tremendously about the well-being and residential environment in public housing. More information is available here.
The Synergy project has been extended to Ottawa, Ontario through the Bank Street Community Alliance, in collaboration with Ottawa Community Housing. We aim to promote the individual and collective health and well-being of people living in public housing.
We want to get to know you as individuals and listen to your opinions on living here at 1365 Bank Street as well as in the neighborhood. We hope to identify the important issues for tenants’ health and well-being and think about creative solutions together.
Our goal is to make your voices heard by connecting with executives and decision-makers from four sectors in Ottawa:
Health and Social Services;
so we can work together to create positive change.
